WordPress 3.6 Released – Code Named “Oscar”

Today marked the release of WordPress 3.6, the next long-awaited major release of WordPress.

WordPress 3.6 features the newly revamped default WordPress theme, Twenty Thirteen, an overhaul of the WordPress revisioning system, post locking and augmented autosave, and a built-in HTML5 audio/video player.

Here is the video that the WordPress team put together introducing the release of WordPress 3.6.

One thing you will not see in WordPress 3.6 is the overhauled WordPress dashboard — codenamed “MP6”. The fresh look is still being developed as a plugin, as Matt mentioned in his State of the Word last weekend.

You can expect to see MP6 integrated into a WordPress core release sometime this year though.

So what are you waiting for? Go download WordPress 3.6 right now! But make sure before you do, backup your WordPress site, test your site using WordPress 3.6, then run the upgrade.
