Long time community member Ryan Duff, is seeking support from the community to help get him to WordCamp SF 2012. WCSF is undoubtedly the largest WordCamp each year, founded and ran by the powerhouse behind WordPress — Automattic.
UPDATE:Duff was successful in his crowdsourcing was able to raise enough money, in under 24 hours, none the less.
He’s trying to raise $1,500 to help cover airfare, food, and hotel. In his Indiegogo campaign, he writes that he recently hurt his back, so he’s been unable to work the past 2 weeks. Those funds were needed to help support his trip to WordCamp SF 2012.
Duff talks about the impact that WordCamp SF has on him as a developer and core contributor.
The Impact
WordCamps inspire me. There are so many bright minds and wonderful people. After every WordCamp I attend I want to give back to the community myself… especially after WCSF.
If this fund is successful I’ll make sure to work extra hard with patches for 3.5 and who knows, maybe I’ll help patch something in core that you’ve wanted fixed for a while but didn’t know how to do.
Something largely unknown to most WordPress community members is Ptah Dunbar’s motorcycle accident last year. Duff was part of a team of community members who stepped up and organized a funding campaign to raise money to help pay for Dunbar’s medical bills.
So if you feel it in your heart, step up and donate even a small amount to Duff and his goal to get to WordCamp SF this year. I made a donation already, will you make one too?
