Five years in the WordPress world seems like a really long time, considering that we just recently celebrated WordPress’ 10th birthday.
Justin Tadlock posted yesterday about his journey of how he got this 5 year mark with ThemeHybrid. He talks about the early days, who some of his competitors were, and many other juicy details of the journey.
Something particularly interesting to me is how few “competitors” Justin actually had.
When I first launched Theme Hybrid, there were very few commercial plugin and themes sites around. If I recall correctly, StudioPress, WooThemes, and Press75 were my only competitors. There may have been others too. I’m proud to be in the same company as some of the oldest and longest-running commercial theme sites around. 2008 was a good year.
Today’s landscape of premium WordPress theme designers, developers, and marketplaces, there are probably closer to 100-200 competitors.
Very proud to see how far Justin has come and wish him all the success in the future, I’m really happy to see his business model has panned out and continues to be effective for him and his product.
