Cloudup acquired by Automattic

Announced this morning, Automattic is set to acquire Cloudup – a company founded to easily share videos, photos, music, links, and docs.

The area of “file sharing” is somewhat untapped by Automattic, on its hosted platform. This acquisition should mean really simple file sharing for its users.

What does it mean for self-hosted users? Right now, nothing. But down the road, this could mean a file sharing option with Jetpack — which has been known to share many features.

As TechCrunch notes, this also expands Automattic reach to 29 countries, adding its first employee in Brazil. This also puts Automattic above the 200 employee mark.
