In a recent email to their affiliates, BraveNewCode announced that they are shutting down their affiliate program.
Here is what they had to say.
We would like to sincerely thank all our affililates for the support of our products over the past few years. It has been an exciting time at BraveNewCode, and we have valued the contributions of our affiliates and our customers in helping to promote our products.
Unfortunately as many affiliates are aware, we have experienced an ongoing problem with fraudulent purchases via the affiliate program. While we have attempted to curb these purchases over the last six months, the amount of fraud is still at a high enough level that our payment processors have asked us to come up with a permanent solution to address the problem.
As a result, we are forced to discontinue the affiliate program in its current form. All affiliate purchases made over the last few months will be paid to our affiliates over the next few months on the original schedule. As the assets we provided from our website will no longer result in affiliate credits, you are free to remove them from your websites at your leisure.
That said, we are in the process of restructuring the affiliate program into a referral program for customers who wish to promote our products at a later date. We will announce those changes on our website when they have been finalized, sometime in the next few months.
Once again we thank you for participating in the WPtouch Pro 2.x, WordTwit Pro and Piggy affiliate programs, and for all your support.
The BraveNewCode Team
BraveNewCode cites fraud, just as others have said as well.
BraveNewCode is not the only company to recently close their affiliate program.
- WooThemes closed their affiliate program
- 8Bit closed their affiliate program
- Headway Themes closed their affiliate program
- The Theme Foundry closed their affiliate program
But what’s different is that BNC will re-release a new program that is more of a referral program.
I have reached out to BNC for comment.
UPDATE 5/6/13 Dale Mugford, a BraveNewCode co-founder, had this to say about the new referral program. “Our referral program will be all-new and will be focused on rewarding customers who share their excitement for WPtouch Pro 3. We don’t have any further details at this time, but as we prepare to launch the new program we’ll be excited to share the details with everyone.”
I’m really interested to see how they approach a new referral system. It might be based more about actual sharing and not just conversions, but we’ll have to wait and see.
